No Matter The Time
Quickly, look at your watch, I mean, grab your cell phone… Now tell me, what time of day is it?
Is it morning, noon, or night?
Well, no matter what time of day it is, God is always there to provide protection.
The Psalmist wrote these words in Psalm 121:5-8: (5) The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. (6) The sun will not smite you by day, nor the moon by night. (7) The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul (8) the Lord will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever.
Let’s just say from this passage that our “time of day” is synonymous with our day to day frustration, fears, and failures. These life experiences seem to scorch us by their severe heat and they somehow have a subtle gravitational pull that lure us away from walking intimately with Christ.
Nevertheless, we further discover nestled within the above passage some of God’s wonderful promises. These promises have historically overcome the test of time, therefore stand true no matter how hot or how ominous our day gets.
God Our Protector
God promises to be our Keeper and Shade who will faithfully protect us and provide us cover and serenity during all of our most troublesome days. We must begin to courageously embrace that God does protect us from all evil and for all our days. But maybe today you’re saying to yourself, this hasn’t been the case in my life. Ok, maybe it doesn’t seem like God isn’t protecting us when we have to migrate through life’s toughest times. Yet should we ever be surprised by difficulties, especially those self-inflicted? So, let’s revisit verse 7: The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.
Protector Of Our Soul
I believe the “you” God is ultimately suggesting He will assuredly protect is our “soul”—the real us. The meaningful us. The eternal us. The you that no one can ever destroy—nor possesses the power to destroy! This real part of you can never be tampered with. The soul of a follower of Jesus Christ, has and will forever be protected against all harm!
So, however dark your day gets remember your soul is always anchored in the Lord!
