VISION AND PURPOSE

We are committed to reaching all nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, equipping God’s people to serve, and transforming our communities and our world.

We exist to be a place for all nations.

A Place for All Nations

This is not a mere slogan or movement at Commitment but we believe it is the very heart of God, one of the motivations of the cross and one of its power results.

Here’s a portion of Scripture that communicates God’s heart for the “Commitment Family”. These are verses we have publically read from our very beginning:

Isaiah 43:4-13: “Since you are precious in My sight, Since you are honored and I love you, I will give other men in your place and other peoples in exchange for your life. 5″Do not fear, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, And gather you from the west. 6″I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’ Bring My sons from afar And My daughters from the ends of the earth, 7Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made.” 8Bring out the people who are blind, even though they have eyes, And the deaf, even though they have ears. 9All the nations have gathered together So that the peoples may be assembled. Who among them can declare this And proclaim to us the former things? Let them present their witnesses that they may be justified, Or let them hear and say, “It is true.” 10″You are My witnesses,” declares the Lord, “And My servant whom I have chosen, So that you may know and believe Me And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, And there will be none after Me. 11″I, even I, am the Lord, And there is no savior besides Me. 12″It is I who have declared and saved and proclaimed, And there was no strange god among you; So you are My witnesses,” declares the Lord, “And I am God. 13″Even from eternity I am He, And there is none who can deliver out of My hand; I act and who can reverse it?”

Furthermore, at Commitment we desire to never forget our pursuit of Heaven on earth found in the passage below:

Revelation 7:9-12: After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; 10and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” 11And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures; and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12saying, “Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen.”

If you desire to experience the glory of God as people from every race, culture, and social background worship a the foot of the cross of Christ we look forward to seeing you at Commitment – where the genuine love of Christ exist.

Our History

In 1991 Cedrick Brown received a phone call requesting his return to a familiar setting. It was a call from longtime friend, John Caras on behalf of Cedrick’s former teammates – those he had once shared the Gospel with had now become Christians. Their request was for Cedrick to return to the Philadelphia Eagles, not as a player but this time as their Bible Study leader. Little did Cedrick know that his obedience would eventually lead to something more. Thus the Bible study began to grow with players, their wives and even those not associated with the team.

While leading a fruitful “Eagles’ Bible study” God was doing something more in Cedrick’s heart – He was revealing His plan all along. Because in 1988 he was approached by those mentoring him in his faith with the possibility of starting a Church – at that stage Cedrick rejected it but now approximately six years later his heart is being readied to align with God’s.

Eventually God won – as He always does, and Cedrick courageously left his post as the Eagles’ Bible Study leader to following God’s leading in starting a spin-off Bible study in the Marlton, New Jersey home of Mike and Stephanie Flores (in 1994). The Bible Study eventually moved to the Recreation Center of the Coachman Manor Apartments located in Lindenwold, New Jersey (from 1995 to 1996).

During their weekly Thursday night Bible Study the church planters: Mike and Stephanie Flores; Marc and Deirdre Woodard; Joyce Ray; Greg and Kim O’Loughlin; Chip Simmons; and Lisa and Cedrick Brown, felt God’s calling to start a church. The vision God gave them was for a church where people from all races and cultures would come together to worship our Lord as one, that everyone would since the love of Christ within the Family of God, and that all would mature to become radically committed to their Lord, Jesus Christ. Lindenwold, with its rich racial and cultural diversity, was the place God chose for such a Church.

In 1996 we began renting two rooms in our current 2 Berlin Rd. South building, then eventually renting the entire building. As we continued to grow, we had no other choice but to purchase the building and the adjacent property in 2001, this created workable space for God’s vision to materialize and for the Commitment Family to dwell within the center of the communities we are called to serve.

On July 25, 2016 after much prayer and deliberation, the Elders of Commitment Community Church determined that God was calling His Bride to join and play her required role in the greater Kingdom work. Thus Commitment Community Church agreed to become formally affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America, and its network of autonomous Churches to better serve the entire Body of Christ, and help collaborate in fulfilling the Great Commission in a greater way.

And the rest we can now say is history, “His-Story”!
