A Place Where All Races and Cultures Worship Together as One
Our worship services are an opportunity for people of all nations to explore, engage, and become equipped in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ —whether it’s their first time or they’ve been coming for years. Daily we prayerfully ask God to bring people from the North, South, East and West, from all nations so that God may manifest Heaven here on Earth, and so that we may worship together as one.
What happens during our Worship Services?
- We Pray – That the presence and love of God would always be among us, and for the needs of each other.
- We Praise – The Lord our God by worshiping Him through song, dance, poetry, drama, and spoken word.
- We Proclaim – The Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the Bible, so that it is taught in a clear and practical way that you may know how to apply it in everyday life.
How should you prepare?
- Come as you are – Please don’t worry about changing yourself because God receives you just as you are.
- Casual dress – Here people dress with jeans, slacks, dresses, and suits if they want. So, you can wear whatever makes you comfortable.
- Culture – There are many cultures that are represented here at Commitment, so whatever your culture you will fit in here, we’re a place where all nations worship together as one!
To Better Serve Families
Children – Birth – 2 years old:
We provide a “comforting room” for nursing moms or for parents of small children to comfort them when they get a little restless. The comforting room is also equipped with a monitor and sound so that our parents do not miss any part the service.
Children – 2 years old to 6 Grade:
We provide childcare at all of our services. Our children are dismissed at a specific time during our Worship Services to attend “HizKidz Service”. This is a special time for our children to receive a well planned Bible lesson and have fun creating a craft to support their learning.
Youth – 7th Grade to 12th Grade:
We provide our youth special classes and serving opportunities at all of our services. Classes are held on the 1st weekend of the month and serving opportunities are on the 3rd and 5th weekends of the month. Our youth are dismissed at a specific time during our Worship Services to be taught a lesson by our Youth Pastor, Jose Esquilin or one of our qualified Youth Leaders. If your child is serving we encourage them to arrive at least 30 minutes before service begins so that they may participate in our morning huddle (prayer and preparation for service).
How we got connected to CCC:
In December of 2010 we were invited to CCC by an old high school friend whom we hadn’t seen in a long time. We had been looking for a church ever since moving back to New Jersey from Puerto Rico and we were still looking. Coming to CCC for the first time for the Christmas service changed that. We were welcomed with hugs and an environment that was not intimidating. We had been searching for a church and finally felt at home. The message was refreshing and very relatable which we appreciated. We always wanted a church that valued diversity and were glad to finally have found one. We can honestly say that our church family is awesome! Each member has their own story, their own personality and everyone has something great to contribute to the kingdom and the body of Christ. We are truly thankful for the love we received and continue to receive from our church and have seen God in the middle and center of it all. Only God can inspire the love that is evident in this church. All it took for us to experience all this church had to offer was one visit. That visit made all the difference.
We know God is moving in our lives because…..
We see the growth spiritually that is taking place in our lives. We have seen God work things out that we worried about. He is making himself more and more visible in the middle of everything. God has softened our hearts and is placing more and more of a desire for His Word in us. Our personal relationship with each other is maturing and God is to thank for that. We know that He is moving in our lives and we are thankful that He will continue to do so.
How Did You Get Connected to CCC?
About 16 years ago, I frequently led a Bible Study in Egg Harbor City. Joyce Ray, our missionary to South Africa, along with some other friends of mine attended the Bible Study. One week, Joyce introduced me to her friend, Cedrick Brown, who would be leading the study that evening. At the end of the Bible Study, Pastor Cedrick invited me to Commitment. A few weeks later, I moved to the Philadelphia area and visited CCC for the first time and soon after, became a member. Four years later, Spring was invited to CCC by her 1st grade teacher, Shirley Vaughn. During Spring’s time at CCC, she heard the Gospel a few times before being led to Christ by Pastor Cedrick on October 31st, 2001 during Hallelujah Night. I asked Spring to marry me on Sunday, November 26th, 2006 and she said yes. We exchanged phone numbers that day and had our first date on Wednesday, November 29th. We got married on Sunday, December 31st, 2006. I thank God for bringing me to Commitment, where I have gained church family, met my wife, and contributed to the birth of two studmuffins!
God Is Moving In Our Lives Because:
God moves all of the time! One of the most recent times that we saw God move on behalf of our household was during the year that Spring stayed home after giving birth to Seth. Even though we saved, we didn’t know how we would be able to pay bills for one year without her income. God told us to trust Him! Some difficult events began to happen when Spring’s maternity leave began. We had a bathroom leak resulting in the option of getting it repaired in 30 days or being kicked off of our homeowner’s policy . We found two bats living between our window AC unit and the windowsill which lead us to the discovery of completely rotted windowsills. Spring’s medical insurance was ending and the cost of going on mine was outstanding. We witnessed God move! He provided all of the money for the necessary repairs. My medical insurance plan changed for the first time since I had been an employee and became more suitable than my wife’s plan. And most important, God allowed Spring to enjoy a full year home with the boys. Our needs have changed since the boys have been at daycare and we are both working, but God is still moving as He continues to give us exactly what we need.
How Did You Get Connected to CCC?
About 4 years ago we attended a marriage seminar led by Pastor Cedrick and Lisa, who invited us to visit CCC. We had been praying that God would lead us where He wanted us to be. We had been going through a difficult time, but God knew just what we needed. Pastor Cedrick came to our home and provided us with godly wisdom, counsel, and encouragement which helped us through a tough time. We are a changed family because he took the time to care and speak Truth into our lives. We know that the Lord sent him to minister directly to us and are so thankful for the many ways he challenges us to follow Christ. Within the next few months we decided to visit CCC and felt the Lord calling us to keep coming back. God is so good! He answered our prayer by leading us exactly where we He wanted us. We can honestly say that being a part of CCC has been one of the best decisions we have made for our family. We have found so much more than a church home, we have found a family of believers who have touched our lives and the lives of our children with the love of Christ in countless ways. We see God working here and are excited to be a part of all that He will continue to do in and through the body of believers at CCC.
We know God is moving in our lives because….
How We Got Connected to CCC:
At ten years of age I gave my heart over to Christ and was baptized at the age of thirteen. During my teen years, I was very involved in things with the church, like the youth group, Bible Surprise Club and many other groups. In December 1959 I left school and joined the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy I found worldly things and went the way of the world. In 1962, Pat and I were married and Pat gave birth to our four girls over the next few years. As my career was coming to an end in the Navy, I asked the Navy to station me in Philadelphia so we could get back with our families and retire in this area. They did and we found the perfect house to settle into. Our new home was around the corner from a small church. Pat began taking our girls there and liked it and began to get involved. At the end of their VBS, I went for the closing program and found God had reeled us in. In 1992 God called me into the mission field; The Gideon’s International. I could stay home but I am able to reach hundreds and thousands by placing the Word of God in the hands of men, women, boys and girls. After some time at that little church, I began thinking of visiting some other churches. Someone left a CD on our door from Commitment Community Church, so I put that church on my short list to visit. Around that time I discovered Pastor Cedrick was to be the Bible Hour speaker at the N.J. Gideon’s State Convention. Since CCC was one of the churches in my camp area and I really wanted to know the pastors I decided to meet Pastor Cedrick prior to the convention. We visited his church one Sunday morning and liked what we saw and heard. The rest is history.
We know God is moving in our lives because:
While I was in the Navy I walked away from the Lord but He never left me. God promised……”I will never fail thee, nor forsake thee”, Joshua 1:5. There are many times when things could have been very bad, but He had his hand upon me and I’m sure it’s because He had plans for me. I know He is moving in me because God is training me. He is empowering me and equipping me to do the works He has called me into.
How we got connected to CCC:
Norby: During my early walk with Jesus, I personally wasn’t a member of CCC officially until 5 years ago give or take few membership papers and processes! My wife and I however were a part of a Spanish ministry that had services here at Commitment Community Church and one thing led to another. We became involved in the mix of things through the local worship ministry here with Marc Woodard and low behold, here we are a decade later still going! Before my wife and I got married I was a part of a ministry that put me on a plane every weekend going to different places on the globe. All the traveling hindered my consistent walk with God and my family. It was very difficult to say the least and it got old fast. It’s every musician’s dream to play for a living while being involved in an ongoing production on the road. However, without the structure of family and connection to a local Church it is difficult.
Eve: The very week after our wedding I had to drop my husband at the airport and then I did not see him for 2 weeks! This was hard for me. I really never got my storybook life after the wedding; having my husband at home after work and having dinner ready on the table when he came home. We lived in Northeast Philly at that time; about half an hour away from anyone we considered family and friends! We had neither connection nor growth whatsoever!
How is God moving in your life?
Norby: Eventually God made a move on my chess board of life and had me in a stale mate. This showed me that my running was getting nowhere and I had no choice but to heed the call on my life. I had to stop and smell the pine trees, which led me to move back to NJ and live in Pine Hill. I was finally ready to start raising my family and in the meantime, learning to hear from God in a tangible way that it forever changed my life. This helped to give my wife a new direction and perspective in life just I’m time for her new journey as a mother. Shortly after 3 years of marriage, our child Eagan was born and I found a new purpose driven career. My wife and I serve full time here at CCC and The Arts Avenue. We are seeing what God does through the arts, our Worship connection and our church body. This never stops in helping us grow closer to Christ.
How did you get connected to CCC?
I started coming to Commitment Community Church in 2006 during Vacation Bible School. I was 9 years old when my neighbor, Ms. Nancy “Honey” David invited me to come with her and her grandson Shaliby. My mom Brenda Byrd had recently purchased a house and they were our new neighbors. My mother was very protective of me, so at first she said “I do not know that lady” and she wouldn’t allow me to go. On the second day I asked again and she said “yes”. I liked the bible study so much that I asked if I could go with her on a Sunday and my mom agreed. I started visiting with her as my mom would allow on Sundays. At this time my mom and I were members at Bethany Baptist Church in Lindenwold. That was the only church I had ever been a member.
When I started visiting Commitment Community Church, it was different than Bethany. When I walked in the door I felt like I was home. Everyone knew each other and it was a totally different atmosphere then I was used to. Even Pastor Cedrick knew everyone who attended his church and if he didn’t recognize someone he introduced himself. I started to like Commitment Community church more and more.
I told my mom “next week I am going to ask Pastor Cedrick if I can be a Greeter and collect the offering.” My mom said only members do that. I told my mom I am a member of Commitment. My mom replied “you are a member of Bethany, not Commitment. After having this conversation a few times my mom asked Pastor Cedrick if I could join Commitment without her. She explained that I no longer wanted to attend Bethany and she did not want to make me attend a church where I was not happy. Pastor Cedrick said “yes” and I started going every Sunday. If Ms. Honey couldn’t take me, then my mom would drop me on her way to Bethany. After a few months, I told my mom “we are a family and we belonged at the same church.” I told her “we have been going to your church all of my life.” I asked my mom if she could just give my church a try and see if she liked it. My mom came with me to Commitment that next Sunday and we have been here ever since.
I know God is moving in my life because…….
Today I am blessed to have a loving mother who takes very good care of me. God has allowed me to learn how to be a man without a father figure. He also put men in my life that go to Commitment that give me wisdom and advice. He also blessed me with men at church I can look up to and teach me.
At the core of what we believe and why we exist as a Church is Jesus Christ.
Colossians 1:15-19: 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. 19 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him.
We believe in one God, Creator of all things, holy, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in a loving unity of three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Having limitless knowledge and sovereign power, God has graciously purposed from eternity to redeem a people for Himself and to make all things new for His own glory.
We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.
The Human Condition
We believe that God created Adam and Eve in His image, but they sinned when tempted by Satan. In union with Adam, human beings are sinners by nature and by choice, alienated from God, and under His wrath. Only through God’s saving work in Jesus Christ can we be rescued, reconciled and renewed.
We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus—Israel’s promised Messiah—was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.
The Work of Jesus
We believe that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed His blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation.
The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit, in all that He does, glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. He convicts the world of its guilt. He regenerates sinners, and in Him they are baptized into union with Christ and adopted as heirs in the family of God. He also indwells, illuminates, guides, equips and empowers believers for Christ-like living and service.
We believe that the true church comprises all who have been justified by God’s grace through faith alone in Christ alone. They are united by the Holy Spirit in the body of Christ, of which He is the Head. The true church is manifest in local churches, whose membership should be composed only of believers. The Lord Jesus mandated two ordinances, baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which visibly and tangibly express the gospel. Though they are not the means of salvation, when celebrated by the church in genuine faith, these ordinances confirm and nourish the believer.
We believe that God’s justifying grace must not be separated from His sanctifying power and purpose. God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to live out our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed. With God’s Word, the Spirit’s power, and fervent prayer in Christ’s name, we are to combat the spiritual forces of evil. In obedience to Christ’s commission, we are to make disciples among all people, always bearing witness to the gospel in word and deed.
We believe in the personal, bodily and premillennial return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ, at a time known only to God, demands constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service and energetic mission.
Your Response and Eternal Destiny
We believe that God commands everyone everywhere to believe the gospel by turning to Him in repentance and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that God will raise the dead bodily and judge the world, assigning the unbeliever to condemnation and eternal conscious punishment and the believer to eternal blessedness and joy with the Lord in the new heaven and the new earth, to the praise of His glorious grace. Amen.
